Iconic historic bank transforms into a chic boutique hotel with an award-winning bar
London-based Lore Group enlisted TAA PR to introduce a new phase for this historic building, (formerly Riggs National Bank, built in 1891) where presidents kept accounts transformed into a chic hotel and restaurant where modern, artful touches (like the 14-foot permanent display of a vivid flower bouquet) pairs seemlessly with marble columns from its life as a banking institution.
The ground floor opens to Cafe Riggs, a sophisticated restaurant pairing the best of European technique with modern American ingredients, giving way to a lively happy hour scene with seafood spreads and perfect french fries.
The hotel features 181 rooms including First Lady-themed suites, centrally located in DC’s Penn Quarter neighborhood.
Riggs’ lower level is home to Silver Lyan, a subterranean cocktail bar by internationally acclaimed bartender and Lore Group’s Global Bar Innovator Ryan Chetiyawardana (Mr Lyan). In signature Lyan fashion, the concept reimagines the traditional hotel bar, delivering something disruptive to the current landscape—a cocktail bar both classic and cheeky, stylish and fun. Silver Lyan, named the No. 1 hotel bar in the U.S. by Tales of the Cocktail, focuses on the history of cultural exchange in America, bringing an elevated irreverence to fittingly, what was once the bank’s vault room.
